Happy Birthday to Me! Donate to Your Local Library!
How to make it all about me and not make it all about me.
I got this LEGO I❤️NY keychain the very first time I visited New York City in 2013. Today, it holds my New York apartment keys and my New York Public Library card. Getting my library card was a momentous occasion. It marked the beginning of my new life in New York, the city I’ve dreamed of living in since I watched the movie Coyote Ugly.
So in honor of my birthday, I’ve set up a little fundraiser for NYPL. I set the goal at $400, because that’s about how much a writing workshop costs in the city. I have been attending writing workshops and book talks and reading books for free. Most recently, I’ve been part of a 12-week writing workshop at the Mulberry Street NYPL that has created a safe enough environment for me to revisit my time during Shanghai lockdown and write that story, which I hope will go into a book. If that book ever becomes a reality, it’ll be largely because of NYPL’s many events and resources.
If you’re reading this before March 28th, donate with this link to triple your impact. After that, use my link, which will be open until April 6th. Or donate to your local library! Because libraries are awesome and librarians are a gift from the knowledge gods.
If you’re in New York City, I am turning my next Wang’s World Comedy show at Rodney’s into a birthday show. Come celebrate year 39 with me!
