#MeToo in Taiwan for The New York Times
Late June, I interpreted an interview between Ashish Valentine and Chen Chien-Jou, the former Democratic Progressive Party staffer who came forward with the first #metoo accusation that kicked off a whole movement in Taiwan. The courage she inspired in me drove me to write this guest essay about the #MeToo movement in Taiwan for The New York Times (gift link, free to read).
This was many weeks in the works, with loads of help from the editor, fact-checker, and friends. It’s an issue I’ve been ruminating on since… Puberty. It’s a huge privilege to be able to discuss this issue on such an amazing platform. That’s a very fancy way to say I’m still having a hard time believing that it’s happened at all. I hope you enjoy the piece 😬
